Learn traditional twining (or twisting) weave techniques and create your own dilly bag in this hands-on workshop with Aunty Barb Walker.
Spend the day weaving, yarning and learning as Aunty Barb shares stories of Country, culture and traditional weaving practices. You’ll create your own woven piece to take home and learn skills you can continue to practise beyond the workshop.
Aunty Barb Walker is a senior Wiradjuri woman from Wagga Wagga, NSW, now living in Pittsworth on Giabal Country. A retired midwife, she holds Certificates I, II and III in Wiradjuri Language.
A lifelong crafter, Aunty Barb has worked with fibre since childhood and began focusing on weaving around 15 years ago after connecting with Aunties at Wagga Wagga’s Hands On Weavers group. For Aunty Barb, weaving is as much about sitting, yarning and connecting as it is creating.
Today, she shares her knowledge through workshops with children and adults across the region. She often gathers natural fibres and dyes her own raffia using fruits, vegetables, spices and plants from her garden.
