Queensland Museum’s ID It! Citizen science identification workshops are a hands-on series designed to build your confidence and skills in identifying local wildlife and contributing meaningful data to national research projects.
Across insects, reptiles, birds and frogs, you’ll learn practical identification skills, explore the role each group plays in healthy ecosystems, and discover how simple tools like apps and field guides can turn everyday sightings into valuable scientific records.
Led by Queensland Museum Discovery Centre specialists, these workshops are welcoming, accessible and suitable for curious beginners through to keen nature enthusiasts.

ID It! Reptiles
In ID It! Reptiles, learn to identify Brisbane turtles, lizards and snakes, bust common myths and discover how reptiles contribute to healthy ecosystems. This event is held in celebration of National Science Week.
ID It! Insects
ID It! Insects will help you identify key differences between common insect groups, understand their role in local ecosystems and learn how to record sightings for citizen science projects like iNaturalist.
Pin It! Insects
In Pin It! Insects, learn the techniques used by museum scientists to prepare and preserve insects for research collections. This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the practical skills that help museums study and safeguard biodiversity.
ID It! Birds
Celebrate National Bird Week by flexing your twitching skills. ID It! Birds teaches you how to recognise local birds by sight, sound and behaviour, and demonstrates how local bird observations support conservation research.
ID It! Frogs
Celebrate FrogID Week with ID It! Frogs, a workshop where you will learn how to identify local frog species and submit records using the FrogID app. Your backyard sightings can help protect Australia’s frogs.
