The QUT Future Cities Lab is a dynamic, AI-driven, programmable city model designed as an immersive, hands-on learning tool, ideal for student workshops in Robotics, AI, Electrical, Computer, and Software Systems Engineering. This captivating setup showcases the diverse roles of autonomous vehicles, drones, and ground robots, all working together to illustrate future urban technology within an interactive city model. The LEGO-built buildings and infrastructure feature RGB LEDs and audio cues, simulating real-life urban scenarios and automated responses. Students can explore and program diverse robotic systems that handle traffic, environmental monitoring, and emergency responses, all through an RFID-based navigation system linked to a central control system.

The workshops offer activities such as “Build an Autonomous Vehicle”, where students design a vehicle to overcome transportation challenges, and “Under Attack!”, a cybersecurity challenge to defend the city from a simulated hack.

You will be able to envision the future of sustainable, tech-driven cities, highlighting the transformative potential of robotics and AI in urban settings.
