Brahms was fully aware that he lived in Beethoven’s shadow and how could he (or anyone) follow in the footsteps of a legend like Ludwig Van? One way is to write a concerto that’ll bring down the house – so that’s exactly what Brahms tried to do. It would take years for his Piano Concerto No.1 to gain a cult following, and it’s now one of the most famous pieces of its kind. We’ve even enticed brilliant British virtuoso Sir Stephen Hough to play the solo.
But who are we kidding – we love Beethoven too. That’s why we’ve called upon Umberto Clerici to conduct his rip-roaring 5th Symphony. Yes, it’s the one that goes dun-dun-dun-daaa! It doesn’t matter how famous it gets, or how many times you hear it – it’s always thrilling to hear fate knocking at the door.
