In Peak Plastique, ordinary plastic objects are transformed into extraordinary soundscapes as we take you on a sonic journey into the world of plastic. Featuring 11 exquisite musical compositions accompanied by evocative animations, Peak Plastique explores the intricate patterns and structures of plastic molecules, and examines the ubiquitous presence of plastic in our environment.

Peak Plastique is produced and performed by Queensland-based Australian innovators Clocked Out, known for presenting fantastical, collaborative, experimental, place-led musical events. Drawing on decades of sonic curiosity across the fields of classical, jazz and experimental music traditions, pianist Erik Griswold, percussionist Vanessa Tomlinson team up with Melbourne-based violinist Anna McMichael and video artist Nick Roux to ponder one of the most significant problems of our time – our complex relationship with plastics.

Each work is accompanied by evocative animations created by Nick Roux, including breathing plastic bags, falling raindrops of plastic bottles, swaying colourful straws, and dancing Glad Wrap-encased rocks. The music expresses both a nostalgic longing for a time when seas were cleaner, while others present a stark, reflective look at the friction between futuristic hopes for sustainability and the tough realities of our plastic-filled world.
