A pair of lovers. An evil sorceress. A doomed affair.
Dido and Aeneas, a timeless tale of love and tragedy, is given new life by the internationally renowned, Brisbane based Circa, whose sublime acrobatics are the perfect complement to Henry Purcell’s profoundly beautiful music.
Inspired by Virgil's epic poem, The Aeneid, the opera tells the story of the ill-fated romance between Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, the shipwrecked Trojan prince, whose love is thwarted by the malevolent sorceress.
Following the great success of Orpheus and Eurydice, Yaron Lifschitz returns to Opera Queensland with an ensemble of Circa acrobats to celebrate all the wonder and brilliance that is born of the marriage of circus and opera.
Complimentary pre-performance talks are free to attend, will commence 1 hour before each performance noted on 18, 20, 25 and 27 July, and last approximately 25 minutes. The talk will take place inside the Playhouse Lounge.
