Organist David Bailey accompanies the silent classic The Unknown 1927 on the Gallery’s 1929 Wurlitzer organ. Directed by Tod Browning – the filmmaker behind such classics as Dracula 1931 and Freaks 1932 – The Unknown follows Lon Chaney as the circus performer ‘Alonzo the Armless’. Unbeknownst to the rest of the troupe, he is a killer who will do anything to keep a terrible secret. Lost for decades then only available in incomplete forms, a newly discovered print in Prague restores this silent horror masterpiece to its full power.
