A Geological Tour of Brisbane

South Bank Parklands

25 - 26 Mar 2023
Free

Carved by convicts mining for building resources in the 1800s and enjoyed as a recreational area today, the Kangaroo Point Cliffs that tower over South Bank are hard to miss.

Rock from the Kangaroo Point cliffs (and similar quarries around Brisbane) was an important resource used extensively as a building stone and paving for roads in the developing colony. The cliffs also bear the marks of explosive volcanic eruptions from more than 245 million years ago.

Uncover the rich geological secrets hidden within these incredible formations that are quite literally the building blocks of Brisbane.
