Underworld uses music from three great operas by three great composers; radical reformer Gluck, irreverent Offenbach and minimalist Glass, to create an exciting new take on the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. Characters from each opera shape shift and infiltrate the other operas to retell an ancient love story.
Orpheus, an artist obsessed with art, neglects Eurydice, lover and muse. Eurydice is kidnapped by a mysterious Princess, who is in turn in love with Orpheus, and taken to the Underworld. Orpheus sets off to rescue Eurydice but they all end up trapped in a terrifying place between life and death, where instead of fire and brimstone, there’s non stop partying. Until the God of Love intervenes and hits the reset button.
