Ensemble Q is the Australian chamber group on everyone’s lips. They have wowed audiences across Australia and internationally, have been chosen to tour on the national Musica Viva touring platform, and are featured regularly on ABC Classic. Ensemble Q is directed by Co-Artistic Directors Trish and Paul Dean, and led by Queensland Symphony Orchestra co-Concertmaster Natsuko Yoshimoto.

In this debut performance as new Ensemble in Residence at QPAC, Ensemble Q pairs the much loved Beethoven Septet with a brilliant new Septet by Co-Artistic director and composer of the moment, Paul Dean. Scored for violin, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, bassoon and horn, the septet combination creates a distinctive, powerful yet elegant sound and highlights the virtuosic performers of Ensemble Q.

Dean’s first Symphony was performed in 2021 by the Australian World Orchestra, gaining a host of five star reviews, national and international attention and major commissions. His Septet is majestic, colourful, sad and humorous, and the perfect program partner for the Beethoven.

Program

Beethoven Septet in E flat Op 20
Paul Dean Septet

Quite possibly the best performance I’ve seen all year, and an astonishing feat of music-making..... frankly, this was a jaw-dropping performance.
